Invest the monies paid to Council of State members in agriculture – Ivan Kyei Innocent to government
Social communicator Ivan Kyei Innocent has described the remuneration given to the members of the Council of State as wasteful expenses by the state. An opinion which is not isolated considering the views of several other citizens especially when that is contrasted with the current economic conditions in the country.
Instead of paying such huge sums of monies to the Council of State members whose work is of no essence to the state, Mr Kyei Innocent suggested a more profitable option for the money to be invested in. He said the amount of money paid to the 31 members of the council should be scrapped since the work is on a part-time basis as earlier affirmed by the Agbomefia of the Asogli state Togbe Afede who returned ex gratia paid to him by the state.
Speaking in an interview with Agyenim Boateng Adjaye on the Active Morning Show, Ivan Kyei Innocent urged the government to focus the country’s resources on agriculture, industrialization and the creative art industry as a long-term solution to curb reckless borrowing.
According to him, if the government channels its resources to agriculture and industrialization, it will create employment for the youth. This he said will help boost the Ghanaian economy.
Ghana is currently seeking a record 17th bailout from the International Monetary Fund after it earlier denied claims the country was on the brink of a return to the IMF a few years after exiting its 16th bailout programme.
