IGP tours Eastern Region, holds meetings with stakeholders on security matters
Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has embarked on an Eastern Regional tour to check the performance of the Police and the security situation in the region.
His first stop was Kwahu Abene the paramount seat of the Kwahu traditional council to interact with the chiefs. He is also scheduled to patrol Afram plains and inspect some Police facilities
The reason behind the closed-door meeting with the chiefs is to discuss the crime rate in the region and how the chiefs and people can help to curb the situation.
Men and women of the press were later briefed by the Chairman of the Regional Security Council Hon Seth Acheampong who admitted the worrying crime rate in the region.
He indicated that the IGP’s visit was to check the work of the Anti-robbery Squad initially dispatched to fight criminals in the Eastern Region especially the Kwahu enclave.
Reports indicate that the Kwahu enclave has been recording highway robberies, and violent clashes among nomadic herdsmen and farmers, among others.
The Regional Minister was however optimistic that discussions would help address public safety concerns and inform and better manage crime on the Kwahu Ridge and the Eastern Region.
