Ignore NDC and support the E-levy – John Boadu to Ghanaians
The proposed introduction of the E-levy has sparked some controversies especially among the political parties and this time round the New Patriotic Party in response to opposition National Democratic Congress has called on Ghanaians to reject the NDC’s position on the E-levy.
General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Mr John Boadu lashed out at the NDC saying though they do not support the policy, they will not scrap but rather increase it when they come to power.
This was after the opposition NDC has appealed to Ghanaians several times urging the public to resist the levy following the revelation of the government’s intention by the Finance Minister in Parliament while presenting the 20222 Economic Police and Budget Statement. The party argued that it would add up to the woes of the already suffering Ghanaians.
The Minority caucus has cautioned that it will vote against it during the passage of the 2022 budget statement.
However, Mr. Boadu defended his party’s stance saying NDC believes the tax is an innovative way of raising government revenue. He is thus asking Ghanaians to reject their stance against the e-levy.
“When we were bringing the ‘Talk Tax’, they kicked against it. They demonstrated against it but at the end of the day when they came to power, they didn’t remove it. They rather increased it because it was an innovative way of raising revenue.”
“So I believe that they believe this is an innovative way of raising revenue and I can assure Ghanaians that they will never withdraw this tax when they come to power. So Ghanaians should ignore them.”
The Communications Director of the party, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, also called on Ghanaians to support the passage of the levy and demand accountability for it.
“I will be the first to admit that government after government records on delivery of public services, public goods have not always been the best in terms of the expectations of the people, but sometimes it is also because of the short funding mechanism that is why you have so many government assets abandoned across the country.”
