I never blocked any road nor destroyed property – Madina MP denies Police accusation
The tussle between the legislator for Madina constituency Francis-Xavier Sosu and the Ghana Police Service is far from over as the MP has accused the Police of not being sincere with facts and incidents that occurred during the protest he led at his constituency over the poor state of roads.
Mr Sosu insists he was not involved in blocking any roads and neither did he destroy any property during the protest as claimed by the Police.
For him, the Police are rather twisting facts to shift the public focus away from the poor state of their roads.
“I want to place on record that this is the first time the Ghana Police Service is disclosing the reason for their invitation and their attempted unlawful arrest.
“Any allegation of the Police about my involvement in the unlawful blockade of road and destruction of public property is false and an afterthought carefully manufactured by the Police to shift the attention of the people of Ghana from the key issues of bad roads raised by our protest and demonstration. The Police were part of the demonstration from the beginning till the end. There were no casualties, no destruction of public or private property.”
The controversy surrounding the October 25, protest over bad roads in the Madina Constituency seems unending after attempts by the Police Service to invite the Madina legislator for questioning has been thwarted.
Mr Sosu complained that the Police manhandled him during the day of the protest as they wanted to apprehend him.
That prompted him to report the conduct of the two Police officers to Parliament and accuse them of contempt of Parliament.
According to Mr Sosu, he failed to honour the Police invitation because he was on his way to a Parliamentary meeting as the house prepared to resume from break.
The police however did not accept his explanation but insisted on arresting him in the presence of his constituents, the reason why he called on the Speaker to take action against the Police officers in question.
“Once I got to Ayi-Mensah, there was an Obonu FM reporter who joined my car and was with me till we got to Kweiman, where there was a roadblock. I got out of my car and went to speak with the youth in the presence of the Police until we got them to clear the roads for people to move.
“From Kweiman, I drove to Danfa, where we had a similar incident together with the burning of tyres. There again, I got out of the car, in the presence of Police and, together with some of the officers, spoke with the angry youth and got them to join us to Otinibi,” he noted.
Some National Democratic Congress supporters revealed the second attempt to arrest Mr Sosu while he was at church as they surrounded the building with the head pastor of the church also being in the affirmative.
However, the Police insisted that it was not the case of an attempted arrest but it was rather for intelligence gathering.
