Hungary donates 800,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Ghana
Ghana has received 800,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines worth 1.4 million Euros from the Hungarian government.
Mr. Tamás Endre Fehér, the Ambassador of Hungary to Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday that the grant was the largest Hungary had ever made to an international partner.
“Ghana is an important partner for Hungary in Sub-Saharan Africa and we hope the donation will contribute to the prevention of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and we look forward to deepening our friendly cooperation with Ghana in the years ahead,” Mr. Fehér stated.
The Ghana Hungarian Friendship Association’s Coordinator, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, expressed gratitude to the Hungarian people for their kindness.
Over two million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been delivered to Ghana.
To achieve herd immunity, President Akufo-Addo revealed that Ghana plans to vaccinate around 20 million people (70 percent of the population) by the close of 2021.
Ghana’s Covid-19 vaccination sensitization campaign builds on an emergency response awareness campaign about Covid-19 hazards, prevention, and treatment that ran from March to December 2020.
Many initiatives in the water, sanitation, health, agriculture, and food sectors have been successfully completed since the re-opening of the Hungarian Embassy in Accra in 2016, demonstrating the potential and dedication of both countries at the highest levels.
Hungary quadrupled Ghana’s quotas under the Governmental Scholarship Program after four years of success, with the country sending 100 additional students each year for various degree programs.
