Help resolve the tension between us and the Ghana Water Company Limited – Weija Chiefs to government

A boundary dispute that ensued between the Weija Traditional Council, Ghana Water Company Limited, and the people of Gbawe Ngleshie Amanfroum has led to the Weija Traditional Council calling for a swift intervention into the matter by the government as they no longer have confidence in the courts.

They sought the intervention of the government during a media briefing.

After exhausting all options to resolve the dispute they believe the last resort would be the government’s intervention to resolve the situation.

They sadly narrated how one of such confrontations led to the death of one of their chiefs Nana Kwaku Bibini some years ago.

What they are currently afraid of is that the government’s failure to resolve the rising tension in the area could see the tension further escalate into violence.

Dzaasetse of Weija, Obgedada Boafo Danyina – Nse I,  said; “We call on the government to settle the boundary issues between the Weija, Gbawe, Ngleshie Amanfrom, and the Ghana Water Company Limited before the situation escalates.”

“Failure to address the issue will cause a clash between the residents of these communities and the company, who are claiming lands believed to be in their jurisdiction because the court is not forthcoming, hence our call for government’s intervention.”

“The traditional council knows some people have encroached on their lands, creating unrest between the parties. Now, is the time to deal with the boundary demarcation.”

He also complained that the Weija community is gradually getting densely populated and that residents need space to lay their heads.

“The Weija community has overgrown and government needs to release portions of the over 13,000 acres of land apart from the Buffer Zone to the Traditional leaders for development. Inhabitants do not have places to lay their heads, hence the government should show us the boundaries.”
