Godfred Dame deported my client in 2018 – Aisha Huang’s lawyer reveals
Lead counsel for the Chinese ‘Galamsey’ kingpin Aisha Huang has revealed that the state Attorney General was responsible for the deportation of his client in 2018.
Addressing the media at the Accra Circuit court today, 14th September 2022, he stated that the Attorney General, Godfred Dame at the time entered into a Nolle prosequi which means that there would be no prosecution. A Nolle prosequi is filed to terminate pending criminal proceedings against an accused person. When it is filed in a case or stated by the Attorney-General during court proceedings, the accused person is discharged by the court.
Lawyer Nkrabea Effah Dartey noted that he received the news of the actions of Godfred Dame with a surprise at the time. Later, he also received news about the Attorney General deporting his client.
He described her client’s actions as minor ones that are rampant everywhere but are being over-flocked by the Ghanaian media. He added that in 2018, he was willing to defend his client, Aisha Huang.
“The law did not disclose that the parliament of ghana had passed any law to declare her a persona non-grata. The law does not show that there was any executive order to have her deported. She was told to come for a meeting and the next thing I heard, she had been flown out,” Aisha Huang’s lawyer reiterated.
Meanwhile, speaking in Ho as part of his tour of the Volta Region, President Akufo Addo noted that her re-emergence raises concerns about whether she actually left Ghana in the first place. “I’m not still sure whether she was in fact deported. Or whether she fled the country the first time and has now come back. There still seems to be some uncertainty about it,” he said.
