GNAT gives government a November 17 ultimatum to fix issues or face their strike action

Philippa Larssen - GNAT President

Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have expressed anger at their conditions of service with regards to their profession.

They further bemoaned how incentives which are supposed to boost and motivate the teacher are being delayed by government .

‘’When one is promoted or transferred from one particular area it takes about six to eight months before the said teacher benefits from such entitlements that is associated with the service they are rendering,’’ President of GNAT Madam Philippa Larssen complained bitterly

Issues regarding the students’ curriculum was a source of worry for the teachers as they are yet to receive the main curriculum which is approved to impart knowledge into the students .

This situation according to GNAT makes their work difficult  and has given the government until November 17, 2021, to address the concerns they have raised so far else they will embark on an industrial action.

All these issues were laid to bare during the commemoration of World Teachers Day yesterday, October 5, 2021, at Sunyani in the Bono Region.

This year’s World Teachers Day celebration focuses on the support teachers need to contribute their quota to the recovery process from Covid-19 hence the theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery’’.

It is the light of this that we hope  issues of the gallant heroes that continue to break their back to impart knowledge into us are addressed.
