GMA Calls For Stringent Measures To Curb Covid Spread At KIA

The Ghana Medical Association wants stricter measures to be carried out to curb the spread of Covid-19 at the Kotoka International Airport .

Its new call comes on the back of the Ghanaian authorities only offering advice to citizens concerning travel to Covid-19 hotspot countries instead of an outright ban of flights to and from those countries. The association thinks Government should be doing more than just cautioning citizens about risks.

They argued that the Ghana travel advisory was vague and was not specific to ban flights from countries such as India, Brazil and the United States to curb the spread, unlike their Nigerian counterparts which were able to do so.

Their stance seems to be in tandem with what the minority in parliament is seeking after the caucus called for a ban on flights from Covid hotspot countries in order to curb the spread.

The issue about the spread of covid came up again when the youth wing of the Christ Embassy Church received wide public backlash when they organized their ‘pneumatic night’ program where it was alleged they did not observe laid down covid protocols. The issue has been under Police investigation and the venue for the program has since also been locked up.
