Ghana Pushes To Resolve Housing Address Problems

More than 7.5 million houses and properties in Ghana have been earmarked to benefit from digital addressing systems.

The Adenta Housing Down community was chosen to pilot the project with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leading the charge. The project which started in 2018 is said to be a collaboration between Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) and the Government of Ghana for the new addressing system which contains street name, unique address and a QR code.

Vice President Bawumia who was elated about the project said “this is trying to solve a major problem in the country which is a proper address system without it development will be hampered.”

Dr Bawumia further emphasized the advantages of the digital address such as having a unique number for easy identification of every property Four million addresses have been earmarked for the first phase of the project.

The vice president also noted that LUSPA is the only company in charge of the project so when anyone acquires a new property the person should not hesitate to call LUSPA to give them an address plate for free.
