Ghana is not a secular country – Sam George defends anti-LGBTQI+ bill
As the committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs sat today after their break, main proponents of the anti-gay bill which is the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values made an appearance before the committee to defend their stance on the bill which if passed would criminalize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) activities in Ghana.
Lead proponent of the bill and legislator for Ningo-Prampram Sam George in defence of his proposal stated that Ghana is not a secular state as being argued by those against the bill.
The member of parliament stated this by saying ‘’Ghana is not a secular state, people have made that statement and said Ghana is a secular state and we must allow it, Ghana is a pluralistically religious state”, he said before the committee.
For this reason, the proponents want activities of LGBTQI+ to be criminalized.
