Ghana Health Service start administration of the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccines today
The Ghana Health Service has today commenced the administration of the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccines across the 16 regions of Ghana.
This exercise will last until September 4 and will be for persons 18 years and above who took the first jab in March this year.
Speaking to the media, Dr Kwame Amponsa-Achiano, Head of the Expanded Programme on Immunization, indicated that priority would be given to health workers in regions outside the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions.
He went on to reveal that about 400,000 people are waiting for their second dose and because the Ghana Health service received 249,000 doses, it is doing equitable distribution across the regions and reserving some specifically for health workers who are at most risk adding that the rest of the people who are eligible will have theirs by mid-September.
The Ghana Health Service, in a press statement, has asked all eligible persons to go to the vaccination centres with their valid National ID cards, preferably the one presented for the first dose, and the Covid-19 vaccination cards for the second dose.

Currently, approximately 850,000 persons have received at least one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, with a little over half receiving the second dose.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians have been admonished to keep adhering to all COVID-19 protocols for their safety.
