Fight off the desires of your flesh – Father Campbell encourages Catholic Priests
Revered Catholic priest Father Andrew Campbell who after 50 years of serving as a Catholic missionary in Ghana and retired successfully has sent a word of advice to young Catholic priests and those still serving in the priesthood.
His advice to his fellow priest is that they should stave off the desires of the flesh and also encouraged them saying “know who you are, you are a priest of God and not a social worker”.
The founder of the Lepers’ Aid Committee and former Parish Priest of the Christ the King Catholic church advice stemmed from some recent allegations of sexual abuse within the Church that has gotten into the public domain.
A member of the Star of the Sea parish in Dansoman, Accra wrote a letter to the Archdiocese of Accra alleging the dreaded issues about an alleged sexual assault by some priests in the church.
But on receipt of the letter father John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra assured that the church would probe the matter and see to it that the issue is dealt with to avoid any recurrence.
Rev Father Wisdom Larweh priest in charge of Child Abuse and Clerical Abuse cases in the Accra Archdiocese has also added his voice and assured that these matters would not be swept under the carpet.
Others appear not convinced that the church would be able to deal with the matter and therefore wanted a professional body such as the Police to get involved for it to serve as a deterrent to others in such an act.
