Eid ul Adha: Interior Ministry declares Tuesday a public holiday
Tuesday has been declared a public holiday as Muslims celebrate the Festival of Sacrifice
Ghanaians are expected to observe Tuesday, July 20 as a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Adha after the Interior Minister declared the day as a statutory holiday.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior said: “The general public is hereby informed that Tuesday, 20th July 2021 which marks Eid-ul-Adha, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.
Eid-ul-Adha also known as the festival of sacrifice is an Islamic festival celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to obey Allah’s command to sacrifice his son.
Muslims around the world observe the event with Eid prayers and the sacrifice of cows, sheep, goats, camels and other animals.
