The Electricity Company of Ghana has said Ghanaians should not just consider the 27.15% increment of tariffs as the final but should expect an increment due to other added charges such as levies.

ECG explained that should the required levies be added to the percentage the charges will automatically go up.

Managing Director of the company, Mr Samuel Dubik Mahama pointed  this out in a statement on 30th August 2022  saying “In effect, individual customers’ tariff percentage increase will depend on customer classification and consumption category,”

This statement, in essence, is to draw consumers’ attention to the fact that ECG is gearing up to apply the increasing charges from the agreed date of 1st September 2022.

Lifeline customers of the company will enjoy the power to 30KWH per the company’s new policy for residential consumers.

The statement further reveals that the cost has been catalogued by ECG in a “Reckoner’’ to indicate how the tariff is applied and built.

It plans for this to be shown in customer service centres and in the district to serve as a guide to the customers when they buy power.

However, the ECG pledged to customers its readiness for a smooth application of the new tariff from September.

A help desk has also been set up in the district offices of the ECG to address any challenges in that regard.
