Drivers left frustrated as Madina protesters block roads
The ongoing demonstration over bad roads in the Madina area has triggered the closure of roads by angry residents of La Nkwantanang municipality. Protesters have blocked the Ayi-Mensah, Danfa and Otinbi stretch.
This has left drivers and other road users on that stretch stranded this morning due to the protest by the angry residents. Also, one of the demonstrators has reportedly been arrested by the Ayi-Mensah Police when the angry residents charged at the security personnel.
The protestors have called on the government to bring contractors to the site to commence work on the roads.
One of them said “We want the government to know that we are really suffering. We always go to fitting shops to get our vehicles fixed because of this road. We want the government to come and fix our road for us”.
Another resident said: “We are tired of buying spare parts. We want the government to fix the road now. That’s all that we are asking for.”
The demonstration is being led by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Francis Xavier-Sosu.
This protest is to express the constituents anger and displeasure over the devastation caused by recent heavy rainfalls, which flooded and trapped some constituents in their homes.
The Member of parliament blamed the dire situation in his constituency following the rains on neglect from the government.
Mr Francis-Xavier Sosu is also questioning why his constituency has been left out of the year of roads agenda touted by the government.
