Deal with teachers and invigilators involved in exam malpractice – AFfED to GES
Issues of incessant examination malpractices that has engulfed some of Ghana’s major examinations has caught the attention of the African Foundation for Educational Development (AFfED) and they have called on authorities to deal with invigilators found culpable in engaging in examination malpractices.
According to AFfED, it has followed the proceedings with the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) with keen interest and has also monitored some acts of teachers and invigilators emanating from some examination centres.
The exams commenced across the country on Monday, November 15th 2021
“As a Civil Society Organization that is interested in improving educational standards in Ghana and Africa by extension, it is imperative to make the facts clear that the purpose of BECE is not to select students who have passed from those who have failed.
“It is a means to test the strength and weaknesses of the students to help make an informed decision about life.
“AFfED is therefore disappointed in the invigilators and teachers who have taken up the responsibility of taking money to assist candidates by every means possible during the Examination.
“Such practice is unprofessional, uncalled for and undermines the integrity of the teaching profession.”
They added that “It is on this note that AFfED, calls on the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and West Africa Examination Council to put measures in place to apprehend all teachers and or invigilators who are found culpable and have them face the full rigours of the law.
“Such persons who champion examination malpractice must be severely penalized to save the quality of Ghana’s examination system.”
