Criticize us but do so constructively – George Akuffo Dampare appeals to Ghanaians
The Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service Dr George Akuffo Dampare has called on Ghanaian to criticize the Ghana Police Service but in a more constructive way in order not to demoralize officers in the services.
According to him, the police are professionals who needs to be encouraged to do more than being spoken about in a negative manner.
He then urged the public to criticise the Police but do so constructively since destructive criticisms could destroy the morale of the officers.
“Criticise us but please do so constructively so that the men and women of the service are not demoralized,” he appealed.
He encouraged the public to make the police their friend and also be law abiding citizens.
The Ghana Police Service has often been put under the knife by the Ghanaian public for what many people call unprofessional conduct. A number of high profile police brutalities as well as continuous allegations of corruption with officers perceived to always be anxious to receive bribes from the public instead of insisting on the right thing being done has put the service in the spotlight.
Recent research findings by the Ghana Statistical Service and the Centre for Democratic Development -Ghana has added more weight to the public’s perception of the service. Dr George Akuffo Dampare has sought to quash the findings by claiming the methodologies are flawed but that has not done enough to erase the public’s doubts.
