Court orders the arrest of a 32-year-old woman for possession of fake cedi notes
An Adentan Circuit Court has ordered the arrest of a 32-year-old trader who was discovered in possession of 200 fake GHC5 notes.
Patience Mattson according to GNA went to a mobile money vendor to deposit the money, totalling GH 1,000, into her money wallet, but the vendor grabbed her and took her to the police station after noticing the notes were false.
Patience, who was on police investigation bail, was not present when the case was called on November 4, 2021.
The Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jacob Nyarko, requested a bench warrant for the accused’s arrest.
Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah, the judge who presided over the case, granted the prosecution’s request and issued the warrant.
The Court, on the other hand, adjourned the case sine die, ordering that the accused person be brought before the Court as soon as she was arrested.
Patience is being held on suspicion of possessing counterfeit money.
The complainant was a mobile money salesman who lived in Oyarifa, while the accused also lived in Owusu Ansah, a neighbourhood of Oyarifa, according to the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, the complainant arrested and brought the accused person to the Police Station with GHC5 denominations totalling GHC1,000 on August 14, this year.
According to the prosecution, the accused went to the complainant’s shop at 8:30 p.m. on the same day and requested that the money be transferred to her mobile money wallet.
The complainant suspected the money was fake while counting it, so he apprehended the accused and took her to the Police station with the money.
According to the prosecution, the exhibits were sent to the Bank of Ghana for examination, and it was determined that they were fake notes.
He states that the defendant admitted to having the counterfeit bills but denied knowing they were counterfeit.
