CONIWAS ‘fight’ Greater Accra Regional Minister over exclusion from ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’
Chairman of the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) Mr Yaw Atta Arhin has expressed disappointment over its exclusion from the launch of “Operation Clean Your Frontage”, an initiative of the Greater Accra Minister under the auspices of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the ‘Let’s make Accra work’ agenda.
Although he commended the efforts of the Regional Minister, he believes CONIWAS are also stakeholders in promoting such practice and they could have collaborated and augmented the efforts of the Greater Accra Regional Minister to make his program more successful.
Ahead of the launch of the program yesterday, Mr Yaw Atta Arhin believes it’s time for Ghanaians to sacrifice to improve the sanitation situation in the country.
For him, it is also time for the Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr Henry Quartey the spear header of this initiative to step back and let the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives work and ensure that the sanitation initiative he has brought up is enforced to the latter.
He also reiterated his advocacy for the establishment National Sanitation Authority to also tackle such matters.
The “Operation Clean Your Frontage” campaign is to encourage the greening of the city. However, the necessary by-laws have been passed and gazetted by the 29 Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region to enable the lawful implementation of the initiative.
Mr Henry Quartey also revealed to the press that, there will be a grace period of three months for the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ to be fully implemented after Friday’s launch to allow for all the necessary steps that ought to be taken to go through.
