Concerned drivers association reveal reasons why they halted transport fares increment
Public Relations Officer of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana Mr. David Agboado has given the reason why they could not go ahead to increase their transport fares by 40% after they initially announced the plans to Ghanaians last week.
Mr. Agboado during an interview on the Active Morning Show with Agyenim Boateng Adjaye revealed what accounted for them rescinding their decision was the fact that the country was on the brink of another fuel price increment and the C-DAG per the consultation with stakeholders in the sector like the Coalition of Commercial Transport Operators, Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union were advised to wait before coming out with a decision an association.
But as prices at the pumps have started going up again and it has a direct impact on their work they are scheduled to have a crunch meeting on Tuesday 18th January 2022 with the government and other stakeholders in the sector and that will determine whether C-DAG will go ahead with the increment or not, Mr Agboado noted.
Also, Mr. Agboado indicated that though they feel the plight of Ghanaians as they hit them with another increment, they are also calling on the government to do its part by scrapping some levies attached to the fuel prices which include Price Sustainability levy, Energy debt recovery levy, Energy sector levy, Energy fund and Sanitation and Coalition fund as they believe their scrapping will help in reducing fuel prices and even avoid an increment in transport fares.
For Mr. Agboado, as they anticipate the meeting on Tuesday the C-DAG as an association does not want to promise anything but if the government does not meet their demands then they will have no choice but to increase the price of their transport fares.
