Comply with the ruling of the court of justice – Akufo-Addo to Ecowas member states
Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Nana Akufo-Addo has advised member states to make sure they comply, respect and obey the ruling of the Community’s Court of Justice (CCJ).
He gave this advice while addressing attendees of the opening ceremony of the maiden external session of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice. President Akufo-Addo also said national sovereignties should not impede the realization of the objectives of the community of West Africa.
“Despite the best efforts of the ECOWAS court of justice to deliver on its mandate, it is constrained by the poor rate of enforcement of its judgements which presently stands at some thirteen per cent (13%)”.
“Unless member states comply with the judgements of the court, it will be difficult to build public confidence in the court,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“I appeal to all member states to ensure that they comply with their treaty obligation by observing and obeying the judgements of the court”.
“All member states that are yet to appoint their competent national authorities for the enforcement of the judgements of the court are respectfully urged to do so without further delay” the President added.
