Commercial drivers threaten to go on strike on November 25
Members of the Concerned Drivers Union Association are up in arms against the government following the increase in fuel prices that they say is biting them hard. They have thus issued an ultimatum for something good to be done about else they would embark on industrial action on November 25.
They said the upward adjustment of the fuel price and that of spare parts in the country has caused a high standard of living in the country.
“Hence, the drivers union has decided to go on strike on the 25th of November 2021 and, therefore, all motorbikes, tricycles, taxis and trotro cars that use fuel for commercial purposes, have decided to park” the vehicles, the group said in a statement.
The Union has thus called on the government to as a matter of urgency do something to reduce the fuel price.
The drivers had initially rescinded their decision to strike prior to the presentation of the 2022 budget statement to Parliament.
But it appears the 2022 budget as presented by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta did not meet their expectations and the government also did not have any intention of reducing the fuel prices.
They have thus decided to express their anger towards this decision by parking their vehicles for government to understand that they mean it this time.
