Citizen Coalition to hit streets of Accra today to mount pressure on AG to his surcharging powers
Coalition for Democratic Accountability also known as Citizen Coalition has called on the Auditor General to go hard on persons who flouted the country’s laws and committed various offences as revealed by the 2021 Audit report.
Dubbed red Monday, today, 5th September 2022 has been set aside by the Citizen Coalition to protest along the major streets of Accra to demand immediate action on the Auditor General’s report.
The protest will be on the major streets of Accra starting from the Efua Sutherland Children’s park at 8 am after which a petition demanding immediate action by the Auditor General will be presented to the AG’s office.
There have always been several cases of infractions, and flouting of orders costing the state to lose money according to the Auditor General’s report and this year’s finding has been no exception.
The pressure group is therefore demanding the Auditor General to use his powers to issue punitive measures to those caught up in these acts.
During an interview on Citi FM, CDD’s Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement, Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante said, “We are really looking forward to making our voices very loud that the Auditor General has to use its surcharge powers if we are going to ensure that we are protecting the public purse”.
He also seized the opportunity to rally support from Ghanaians to join the course to mount pressure on the Auditor General to start punishing culprits.
