CHASS Calls For Calm Among Its Members As CID Investigate The Alleged Corrupt Practices By Schools Under The Free SHS Policy
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), has advised its members to remain calm as investigations commence into alleged diversions of food supplies in some Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region.
Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is probing some 53 SHS’ in the Ashanti Region over alleged corruption in the implementation of the School Feeding Programme under the Free SHS policy.
Management of the Ghana Education Service has written to the Ashanti Regional Directorate to ensure that all school heads and other officials cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
There has been widespread agitation and anger among school heads whose institutions have been captured in the ongoing probe but the CHASS President, Alhaji Ahmed Yakubu, has urged calm among its members.
“We only have to stay calm and observe to see how things will unfold. One thing we know for sure and certain is that nothing of that sort has happened, that is headmasters giving out food and giving out cash,” he said.
Some of the schools listed in the statement are Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem SHS, Adu Gyamfi SHS, Kumasi Anglican, Kumasi Girls, Kumasi Wesley Girls, KNUST SHS, and Opoku Ware SHS. Others include Osei Tutu SHS, Prempeh College, Kumasi Academy, and the Kumasi Technical Institute.
“Respective District Directors of Education are required to release the Headmaster/Mistress or the Assistants, Domestic Bursars, Accountants, and Storekeepers of the attached list of schools to the CID for investigations if requested.”
“It would be appreciated if your office could co-operate and collaborate fully with the CID in carrying out the investigations,” the GES statement added.
