Bawumia takes over as President till June, 25 as Akufo-Addo visits Belgium and Rwanda
On Sunday, June 19, 2022, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana for the 15th European Development Days Forum in Brussels, Belgium, as well as the 26th Commonwealth of Nations Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.
At the European Development Days(EDD) Forum’s opening ceremony, President Akufo-Addo is one of eleven world leaders who will be speaking. The event, which is organized by the European Commission, brings together key players to share ideas and experiences in order to inspire new collaborations and innovative solutions to the world’s most serious concerns.
The EDD will focus on “Global Gateway: Building Sustainable Partnerships for a Connected World” during its 15th edition. Global Gateway is a new European strategy aimed at boosting smart, clean, and secure digital, energy, and transportation links, as well as strengthening global health, education, and research networks.
On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, President Akufo-Addo will fly to Kigali for the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Commonwealth leaders are visiting Rwanda to reaffirm their shared principles and to agree on actions and policies that would better the lives of all residents.
The President is also slated to attend a groundbreaking ceremony in Kigali for a factory producing mRNA vaccines. BioNTech is constructing modular “turnkey” mRNA vaccination facilities in Rwanda and Senegal, as well as a fill-and-finish partnership in Ghana.
He was accompanied by Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and officials from the presidency and foreign ministry.
President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to return to Ghana on Saturday, June 25, 2022.
