Bagbin Reveals His Position On LGBTQ Legalization In Ghana

Speaker of Ghana’s parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford  Bagbin has taken a strong stance on the controversial issue of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer(LGBTQ).

His position was made known when the Australian ambassador to Ghana Gregory Andrews paid a courtesy call on him.

In the course of the meeting the diplomat raised issues with regards to LGBTQ rights in Ghana and the way forward. But the speaker in his response indicated that, Ghana will not make any laws that will infringe on people’s rights. Also, the country will be sure to pass laws that will protect the country’s values, traditions, culture, religion and principles.

 He further added, “I will not oversee the legalization of LGBTQ in Ghana.”

Also the High Commissioner, known for his keen interest in Ghanaian culture and food, spoke about the rich Ghanaian culture he has enjoyed since he’s been in the country. He added that it has had a positive image on his family.

The Members of Parliament at the meeting praised the Commissioner for his passion on climate change and how Australia has supported Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the midst of the Pandemic.

The Commissioner was urged to complete the sports facilities Australia promised Ghana and also enhance the Youth Ambassador Project where people within the ages of 18 – 30 can travel to Australia for educational purposes.
