Parliament has been petitioned by civil society organization, Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) to investigate a purported viral video recorded live by one Evelyn Aidoo, a Canadian woman of Ghanaian descent.

In what is a damning allegation against the President, Serwaa Broni as the lady is also known alleged that President Akufo-Addo use National Security operatives to stage a robbery against her for allegedly thwarting the President’s sexual advances to her.

She added that a known member of the NPP acting on the orders of the President made attempts to confiscate her phone for some pictures she took aboard the Presidential Jet while on a flight with the President and other established personalities.

Serwaa Broni added that the persons who robbed her at Dwawenya while she was going to Togo were three men in plain shirts and khaki with leg hoists for guns and were driving a brand new Mitsubishi car. The armed robbers whom she alleged were National Security operatives took everything including her passport but left the car untouched and they had to abort their plans to go to Togo that day due to the lack of their documents and the trauma it brought on them. It was at 1 pm in the afternoon that the incident happened.

The lady claimed that the incident occurred in 2019 but in order not to hurt the chances of the NPP in the 2020 elections, she opted to keep quiet but now has decided to reveal it.

She also revealed that the staged robbery in the bushes at Dawenya, on the Accra-Aflao road, has left her with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which she hopes this revelation will help her overcome.

Also, she alleged that a Policeman told her the driver who was driving an alleged rented company car was a National Security operative and that was also confirmed by another Police officer at Police Headquarters. She when they returned to the hotel, she realized that there were attempted logins on her laptop and they also suspected that their room was not safe so they changed rooms every day of their stay in the hotel.

According to her, Hopeson Adorye assured her that the robbers were only interested in her phones and other valuables but not the passport so all her documents would be returned on the following Monday, the incident occurred on Thursday.

Joining several Ghanaians on wading into the issue, ASEPA said the allegations against the President are of national interest and should not be overlooked.

“First of all, we do not concern ourselves with the infidelity or otherwise of the President of Ghana. We have absolutely no problem who the President decides to invite on board the Presidential Jet or to the comfort of his hotel room when he travels abroad. The President enjoys all those privileges and those are not matters that we take issue with.

“However, aside the publication of explicit/compromising photos of our President on board the Presidential jet (which is a National Security asset) and also from the hotel room of the President which is also a National Security zone, the lady in question also made some very damning allegation of a staged robbery attack on her on the Tema-Aflao road by some National Security Operatives with the direct knowledge of the President of the Republic of Ghana whiles she was in Ghana in 2019.

“An action she directly links to some images she took on her phone whiles she was onboard the Presidential jet which she alleged that the President told her National Security had an interest in. It would be recalled that a few months ago there were series of robbery attacks in the country that heightened the state of insecurity in the country, which required a high-level counter operation by the Police to bring it under control,” ASEPA stated in the petition to Parliament.

“We are therefore calling on the joint Committee on Defence and Interior and Foreign Affairs of Parliament to invoke their supervisory jurisdiction over the executive to initiate a bi-partisan probe into the circumstances under which a Canadian citizen was staged-robbed in Ghana.

“We are also calling on the Canadian Embassy who has been cited as a principal witness by the lady in question as having helped her with fresh travel documents to be able escape out of danger in Ghana take key interest in this matter to ensure that the matter is conclusively dealt with and not discriminate on its actions probably because the lady in question is also a Ghanaian by birth.

“We want the Canadian Embassy to exact the same level seriousness it would have given this matter if the lady in question was a White Canadian,” ASEPA appealed.
