The budget for the Office of the President has more than quadrupled from the figure recorded in just six years and former President Mahama is not cool with it.

Mr Mahama who left office six years ago and failed in his attempt to return two years ago has remained the strongest critic of President Akufo-Addo’s opulence and extravagance, urging him to take the lead in living a minimal life by cutting down expenses to demonstrate Ghanaians to do the same in an economy that has been in the ICU for years.

He took to the microblogging site, Twitter to advise the President to rationalize his expenditure saying “it must first start in the President’s office,” arguing that the President can unilaterally save the country GH¢1 billion by slashing the budget for his office.

“The budget for the Office of the President has ballooned, over the last six years, from GH¢700m to GH¢ 3.1bn in 2022. For expenditure rationalization to be successful, it must first start in the President’s office. Substantial savings of GH¢1bn can be made by slashing the budget.
