Akufo-Addo understands your pain very well – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah tells suffering Ghanaians
Contrary to some reports that President Akufo-Addo does not have a sense of the economic hardships in the country, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has maintained that the President has clarity on the impact of the cost of living on the citizenry.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in response to whether the President has a clear sense of the frustrations, worry and hardship of the Ghanaian people, said on TV3 on 31st October 2022 indicated that “the cost of living which is one of the biggest burdens on our people the president has a clarity on the impact of the cost of living of the people across the country”.
The legislator said “with the greatest of respect, the president travels across the country than you and I and he interact with a lot of people. I was with him in Koforidua in the night when the market women come to see him and gave him updates on the markets in the Eastern Region and how prices were escalating and the impact on people’s capital”.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah also revealed that “on 30th October 2022, the president talked about how people’s capital is being washed away so I don’t think we should be under any illusion that the president does not have a sense of what is going on”.
He noted that the cause of the increment in the prices of goods has been identified and some interventions have been announced. According to him, “the interventions are clear on various fronts, what is logical is that we follow through to ensure implementation”.
Mr Oppong added that “this is where our focus ought to be and that is why I keep making the point that we need to focus attention on the execution of the things the president has outlined. These 12 measures, it is not whether it is a gradualist approach. These 12 measures deal broadly with various parts of the economy and we need to rally around and push persons responsible for implementation”.
“With that being said if X, Y or Z is not implementing their part of the bargain a lot of attention will be placed there likewise if new issues come up again we will get a resolution to the issues coming up,” he stated.
