Akufo-Addo summons MMDCEs and CHiefs to Manhyia over illegal mining
President Akufo-Addo has summoned Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and the National House of Chiefs to a crunch meeting today, 5th October 2022 at Manhyia to deliberate on issues regarding illegal mining.
The meeting is coming at a time many Ghanaians have increased the calls for the menace to be stopped. A lot of media campaigns against the menace are gaining steam with several individual Ghanaians being passionate about the levels of destruction caused to the country’s major rivers.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party Ernest Owusu Bempah has appealed to Ghanaians to aid in the fight against illegal mining.
The Occupy Ghana pressure group alarmed by the gravity of the situation is also demanding a state of emergency to be declared over the issue to give the government ample time to deal with the situation.
