After cries and demands from the Minority Caucus to open the land borders and review the Covid test regime at the Kotoka International  Airport, information being picked up suggest that President Akufo-Addo in a bid to address the situation has started engaging in crunch meetings with stakeholders.

Two years down the line the world continues to battle against Covid-19, there have been several appeals to the government to review the restrictions imposed as per the Imposition of Restrictions Act  1012.

Though the country’s entry point by flight, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), was reopened in September 2020 land borders have been shut since March 2020.

Mounting pressure on the government in this regard is the Minority caucus in Parliament, whose members last Tuesday appealed to President Akufo-Addo to open the land borders.

The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, on Wednesday, March 16 2022 revealed that “a task force is trying to look at what needs to be done because we have been there before, though we didn’t get that close to where we have lower reported cases now”.

On Thursday, March 17, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah hinted at a soon-to-be-announced review of the restrictions by the president.

The address will also be extended to tackle the “escalating” petroleum prices.
