Airlines to pay $3,500 dollars if they disembark passengers at Kotoka without PCR test
As part of the stringent measures put in place to tackle the Omicron variant of the covid-19, Ghana‘s health authorities in collaboration with the aviation authorities have issued strict guidelines to airlines that will be flying passengers into the country.
Authorities in their disclosure about strategies they have adopted to prevent the fourth wave of infections revealed that from December 14, 2021, all passengers are supposed to be inoculated and make sure they abide by guidelines for both self-preservation and also the protection of the entire Ghanaian populace.
Airlines bringing passengers to the Kotoka International Airport have been cautioned that passengers who are not fully vaccinated will be surcharged $3,500 per passenger and airlines which board passengers without PCR test results or transport and disembark passengers with positive PCR test results will also be fined $3,500 per passenger.
Per the rule, a non-Ghanaian who fails to heed this directive will be denied entry and the airline will bear the cost of flowing the passenger back. For Ghanaian passengers, they will be subjected to a 14-day quarantine at a designated facility.
Airlines are also required to validate the TT code received from a TT lab or a TC code from a genuine PCR test result been uploaded and analysed using the PANABIOS or Global Heaven Software.
Failure to also not heed to this directive attracts a fine of $3,500 per passenger
The Ghana Health Service explained that they had to adopt these stringent measures on both airlines and their passengers because they had detected 34 cases of the Omicron variant, which is said to be more transmissible, have so far been detected at the Kotoka International Airport; with the airport alone accounting for about 64% of the country’s total case count.
