A planned demolition exercise at Maamobi market sparks tension at Ayawaso North
The Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has incurred the wrath of residents around the Maamobi market in the Senya electoral area following the announcement of a planned demolition exercise.
Residents of the area numbering about 6000 are demanding for proper measures to be put in place before the exercise is carried out.
Also, the residents who have occupied the area for some time are only willing to vacate the area if their properties are valued and compensated, failure of which they will resist every attempt to evict them from the place.
One of the residents revealed that they were relocated here [Maamobi market] by the government only for the assembly to start issuing ultimatums to get them out of the area.
They complained that they have not been given a listening ear and the implications of such an exercise on their investments have not been considered. They are thus pleading with authorities to come to the negotiation table to address the issues to avoid more protests from the residents.
