Irate Amanase residents blocked Accra-Kumasi highway on Thursday evening after a speeding car killed a 70 year old man.
Police in the Eastern Region say they are on high alert as they beef up security in the community after a chaotic protest by residents over the increasing spate of road accidents there.

Yesterday, armed Police personnel stormed the scene in an attempt to disperse the youth following the burning of tyres, blockage of the Accra-kumasi highway and pelting of stones.
The Regional Command had no option than to call for reinforcement.
According to the youth, at least 30 people have been knocked down since the road was constructed due to reckless driving and the absence of a footbridge to facilitate safe pedestrian crossing.
This is not the first time such an incident has been recorded; a similar protest was embarked on over the increasing spate of road accidents in the area.
The road has since been cleared for free flow of traffic. The Police fired warning shots to disperse the angry youth who had massed up and burnt tyres to drum home their concerns.
