56% of Ghanaians are confident in the Ghana Police Service under Dr Dampare
According to a survey report by the Bureau of Public Safety, 56% of Ghanaians have indicated their confidence in the Ghana Police Service under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo-Dampare, with him having spent 100 days in office so far.
The survey reveals that 37% of Ghanaians remained neutral whiles 7% still do not have that confidence in the Ghana Police Service.
Also, the survey pointed out that 59% of Ghanaians were of the view that the Ghana Police Service has seen some improvements in the last 90 days, as against 36% who claimed that things appeared the same, while 6% said there has been no improvement.
However, on the responsiveness of the Police to issues, 53% of respondents said the Police responded too slowly, and 16% said they did not show up at all. Just 2% of the respondents said the Police responded faster than expected, and another 29% said they responded almost on time.
The bureau summarized their report saying “we are minded by the fact that this survey will provide hints and lead into the general opinion of the public on safety and security cum Police performance.”
“Responses from the survey also throws light on policing aspects that the Ghana Police Service will need to focus attention and resources on in the short to medium term, if not the long term. Overall, the survey polled responses from 583 respondents,” it added.
The Bureau revealed that the full report will be made available on November 30.
Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akufo-Dampare was sworn in on October 8 2021 after serving in an acting capacity for two months.
Ghanaians were excited at the news of his official confirmation as the IGP, a man who has previously served as Director in Charge of Administration at the Ghana Police Service as well.
