Over 450 stranded Ghanaians from the United Arab Emirates have been repatriated according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The stranded persons were largely victims of fake agents who scammed the unsuspecting individuals with non-existent jobs, according to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

“The Ministry, in collaboration with some organizations and public-spirited individuals have so far successfully repatriated over four hundred and fifty (450) Ghanaian nationals who were stranded at the Al Tawadi Medical Centre in Dubai. From the Ministry’s investigations, most of our compatriots who were stranded were misled by unscrupulous agents who promised non-existent jobs in Dubai and other parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”

According to the release, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity establishment in Dubai and other benevolent individuals supported the government to bring 80 Ghanaians back into the country.

Also, Mr Abdul Rarsak-Daheer, a friend of the Government of Ghana supported 20 Ghanaians to be evacuated in September 2022, on board Egypt Air.

The government through the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Ministry has stated that the ban on direct-to-home recruitment of Ghanaian labour migrants to homes in the Gulf states is still in full force.

However, the lawful recruitment of skilled workers (non-domestic house helps) to the Gulf states is not banned.

The Citizenry was also advised not to travel through unapproved routes to any part of the world as it would always end in an unfortunate outcome.
