Four political parties have endorsed the 2021 LGBTQI+ Bill, which aims to criminalize lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex and related acts (LGBTQI+) in Ghana.

Heavyweight opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the National Democratic Party (NDP), and the All People’s Congress (APC) are all in favour of the bill, while the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) is against it.

The parties based their arguments on the bill’s form and sanctions system, as well as LGBTQI+ activities in the country and what the bill’s passage or non-passage meant for the country.

According to the graphic online, the NDC according stated that its attitude on the topic was similar to that of late President John Evans Atta Mills and former President John Mahama and that it abhorred the practice.

While the CPP was opposed to the practice, it believed that the bill’s consequences were excessively harsh and that they needed to be reconsidered.

The APC stated that it fully affirms the measures and that it will not accept LGBTQI+ practices in the country.

But Mr Kofi Akpaloo of LPG, who wondered what the promulgators of the bill seek to achieve disclosed that he was against the law in its totality and that it should be voted out of Parliament.
