UTAG threatens another strike action
Government has been cautioned by the University Teachers Association of Ghana that they would withdraw their services again by Friday, October 8, if the government does not change its current position with regards to reaching an agreement with the association on the conditions of service for members.
It would be recalled that there was an industrial action by university lecturers in August this year following government refusal to respect the conditions of service they both agreed on in 2012.
Arrangement of the Single Spine Salary Package put entry level lecturers on a salary of $2,084 while the current level put lecturers salaries around $900. The association further bemoaned the fact that this agreement have not been respected over the years.
Despite government’s plea and assurances for them to return to the lecture halls and get back to the negotiation table government appears unwilling to change its position on issues after the association suspended the strike .
