Three People Die In “Galamsey Pit” With Many Others Feared Trapped

Three people have unfortunately lost their lives with others feared trapped in an illegal small scale mining (galamsey) pit at Breman, near Diaso in the Upper Denkyira district of the Central Region.

Although the number of people trapped in the pit cannot be confirmed, Assembly member for Breman, Francis Agyapong who rushed to the scene explained in an interview on  Akoma FM and monitored by myactiveonline.com that the whole community has been thrown into a state of mourning and grief.

“At this time, we have been able to retrieve only three bodies and they have been handed over to the Police but we also know more than the number of bodies retrieved have been trapped. 

“So we pray that we can remove them on time to save them, but those we have even retrieved have already died so we are helpless and don’t even know what to do, ” he added.

Personnel from the National Disaster Management organization (NADMO), Police and other state security officials are assiduously at the site to save the situation.
