The Mental Health Situation in Ghana

The Mental Health Society of Ghana appears to be worried about the fate of mental health patients in prayer camps .This fear stems  from the fact that, the society beliefs caretakers in these camps do not have the requisite skills to take care of the patients but rather chain the patients to be at one place the whole time trampling upon their rights.

With Covid-19 and other infectious diseases in sight, the society appears more worried about the situation and want the patients released and integrated into their various communities rather than remain in these camps .

Coordinator for Mental Health Society of Ghana Society , Esinam Prah says they will be embarking on a vigorous campaign to sensitize people on this topic in the Greater Accra and Central Regions to curb the stigma attached to mental health situations in most Ghanaian communities ..

The care of  patients suffering from mental health conditions has been a tussle between prayer camps and mental health institutions for so many years and hopefully, this campaign yields the best of results for Mental Health in Ghana.
