The Ghana Police Service has stated that it has arrested a military man Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong, who discharged a firearm at the A&C Mall in Accra, at East Legon on Friday, December 31 2021.

In a statement released today, the Police revealed that the arrest was done in collaboration with the Military Police.

Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong was captured in a viral video firing the gun into the air after taking it out from his car. A young man then run to him and hugged him tight as he continued to fire into the air. It is said he did it to welcome the new year, 2022.

He is currently detained under the custody of the Military Police while investigations into the incident continue.

The Police are urging members of the general public to be measured in their celebrations of the new year.

“As we continue to make merry for the new year, we want to urge the public to be guided in their celebrations and desist from acts that compromise public safety and order,” the statement concluded.
