Some residents of  Osu in the Korley Klottey constituency in the Greater Accra Region are reluctant to visit the hospital for check up after defying  authority and ate fishes washed ashore last week.

They say they are not prepared to visit the hospital unless the government is ready to foot their bills. They also insist that the fishes washed ashore are not poisonous but rather a gift from God so they have even reserved some in their freezers.

Some have also sent the fishes to the surrounding markets to be sold. This is in blatant regard to the directives from the FDA which forbade Ghanaians from eating the fishes or sell it.

Fishes were washed ashore recently at some shores in the Greater Accra, Volta and Western Regions. Stakeholders were worried about the cause of the disaster and various experts offered different dimensions to the cause. An inter-agency level investigation has accordingly been initiated to unravel the mysterious incident’s cause. Samples of the fishes have been sent to different laboratories for testing to ascertain what caused their death.

Residents of Osu however felt the washing of the fishes ashore was a God given manna to them. Thus, they disregarded the warning of the Food and Drugs Authority not to consume those fishes. They did not only consume, but are allegedly selling some and preserving some for further consumption.
