Albert Donkor died in Police custody

In the Nkoranza South Municipality of the Bono East Region, the ‘Justice for Albert Donkor Movement’ is demanding justice for Albert Donkor, a 27-year-old businessman who died under strange circumstances.

It was reported that Albert was arrested at his mother’s house in Kasadjan at 1:00 a.m. on April 25, 2022, for his alleged involvement in a robbery on the Nkoranza-Kintampo route. He later died while being held by the police.

Albert was refused access to a lawyer and family members following his detention, according to Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South.

As a result, the group has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, George AkuFfo Dampare, to guarantee that the officers accused of being involved in Albert’s killing are prosecuted.

The Convener of the group, Nana Adjei Baffoe said “We want the IGP and the President to intervene. The IGP should interdict these policemen so that through the interdiction, we can get a fair trial for our brother”.

However, DCOP Moses Atibilla, the Bono Police Regional Commander, has urged citizens to be calm while the Police Service investigates the incident.

He said “I met the youth, the chief, the queen-mother, and the family itself. I tried to impress upon them to be calm and not to do what they were doing. I agreed with them that they need to show that they were not happy, but afterwards, they should put that aside and let us work together.”
