The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has stated that he does not believe the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is making the right choice by contesting him for the National Chairman position.

Speaking in an interview with Agyenim-Boateng Adjaye on the Active Morning Show, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the General Secretary should not have sought the Chairman position given the current state of the party.

“We’ve all worked together, so we know how to support one another. I believe that staying in our various positions within the party to combine our strengths and resurrect the party is the politically wisest course of action,” he said.

He contended that the Akufo-Addo-led administration is misguiding Ghanaians and NDC must strike back to free Ghanaians from that shackle.

The former Eastern Regional Minister express confidence in his ability to retain the position saying he has been successful and his work in the party speaks for itself.

He added that he has been able to collaborate to bring good ideas to the table, including the creation of a disability unit for inclusivity, a new database system, and new electronic members cards among others.

“Instead of erecting barriers to keep people out of the party, I’ll keep erecting bridges to draw more people into it. Tossing aside a national assert like me would be political suicide.”

Mr Ampofo urged delegates to vote for him based on his record rather than listening to negative propaganda that might influence them to choose the wrong candidate who doesn’t deserve the position.

On December 17, the NDC will hold its national congress to elect a new group of executives. All candidates have already filed for their nominations.
