Some actions are set to be taken against some mining companies who were found culpable in the Appiatse Investigative report, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Jinapor has revealed.

The Minister also revealed that he has received two reports which are the Minerals Commission and the Benjamin Aryee Committee that was tasked to probe the unfortunate Appiatse explosion.

Currently, some of the committee’s recommendations stated in the report are assiduously being worked on, the Minister assured.

He is optimistic that the recommendations will be a springboard for major reforms in Ghana’s mining sector.

“I have received a report from  the Minerals Commission and a three-member committee I constituted to undertake independent investigations into the matter, and I have begun acting on these recommendations.”

“In the course of this week, we will be updating the nation on some of the consequential actions following the report of the investigations.”

He then added that the sector Ministry will not only concentrate on the Appiatse incident but other similar incidents in the entire mining industry.

Meanwhile, the Benjamin Aryee committee tasked to look into the Appiatse explosion on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, presented its report to the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor.

The explosion killed at least 14 people and wounded more than 100 others as well as levelling several buildings in the area to the ground.

The government also intends to rebuild the shattered Appiatse township as a modern Ghanaian village community, which is green and sustainable.

A 7-member committee has been inaugurated to facilitate the reconstruction of the Appiatse community.
