Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information has in a Twitter post taken on the Ghanaian media for misquoting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when he made a remark about the deportation of the Chinese illegal mining kingpin, Aisha Huang.

President Akufo Addo “has never said he isn’t sure if Aisha Huang left Ghana. Please quote him well. He said he wasn’t sure whether she was deported or she fled,” Oppong Nkrumah said.

He stated that there is a difference between deportation and repatriation to explain the president’s comment. He said, “the reason for the president’s comment is that there is a difference between deportation and repatriation”.

President Akufo-Addo caused an uproar when he doubted the deportation of Aisha Huang in 2018. While addressing a gathering during his two-day tour of the Volta Region, the president said, “I’m not still sure whether she was in fact deported. Or whether she fled the country the first time and has now come back. There still seems to be some uncertainty about it”.

He has since gone viral with many questioning the credibility of the government’s statements as well as comments of top officials previously on the matter.
