2 bodies found, 3 still missing after a canoe capsized on the Offin River

Two bodies have been found after a canoe sank in the Offin River in the Ashanti Region. The incident happened on Friday after the boat of some residents trying to cross the river got sank in the middle of their journey.

According to NADMO, the accident was a result of overloading, as the canoe is supposed to convey five people had nine people on board. Out of the nine people, four of them managed to swim to safety, five went missing in which two of them have been found dead.

The DCE in am interview explained that a rescue search party has been deployed to locate and retrieve the remaining bodies.

“We are aware five persons were trapped earlier. We have been able to retrieve two but we are not giving up. The search continues till the last body is found.” Mr Marfo, DCE explained.

The deceased bodies are said to go by names, Holy and Atom. The residents of Achiase has since been in grieve as families mourn the departed. According to sources, the River Offin has overflown its banks due to the recent downpour.
