Shatta Wale and three others to spend one week in Police cells
Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has been remanded into Police custody for one week by a court in Accra on Thursday afternoon according to a post by the Ghana Police Service.
He, together with three others will spend a week in the Police cells after their arrests were effected on Tuesday for allegedly publishing false news with the intention to cause fear and panic.
A post on the Police Facebook page stated that “A court in Accra has today Thursday, 21st October, 2021, remanded Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly referred to as Shatta Wale and three others into prison custody for a week.”.
The statement added that it was upon the request of the Police for them to be remanded for further days to assist in the investigation.
“They were remanded following a request by the police for their continued detention due to ongoing investigations on their alleged involvement in the publication of false information with the intention to cause fear and panic,” the statement noted.
The Police are assuring the public that “Impartial investigations into the matter shall continue” to get to the bottom of the matter.
Many Ghanaians have reacted to the post with several of them taking to the platform to praise the Police for a good job done while encouraging them to do more. Others also think it is unfair to keep Shatta Wale in Police cells for the period while some others made a mockery of the situation, claiming Shatta Wale will have security in the Police cells since he felt unsafe in his house.
