Ghanaian reggae star Rocky Dawuni gets another Grammy nomination
Ghana’s Rocky Dawuni has hit the academy list again this time around with another nomination for the 64th academy awards.
The Afro Roots and Reggae musician who has been breaking barriers with his music for years has earned the nomination with his Voice Of Bunbon, Vol. 1 and is nominated in the category of Best Global Music Album where he will hope to go a step better this time around than the last time he was a nominee.
A humanitarian aside from his music, Dawuni has continuously inspired many with his well thought impactful lyrics that are interfaced in danceable riddims. He follows this one with his 2015 nomination for the 58th edition when his Branches Of The Same Tree album was selected in the Best Reggae Album category and though he lost out to Morgan Heritage in that category, he made history as the first Ghanaian to get that honour with his own work.
Dawuni will compete this year against Beninese, Angelique Kidjo, Nigerian father and son pair, Femi Kuti And Made Kuti, Daniel Ho & Friends and Nigerian afrobeat star, Wizkid.
Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artiste Livingstone Etse Satekla known in showbiz as Stonebwoy will also get the honours if one of the albums he worked on wins at the academy. Three of the albums he collaborated on each with Sean Paul, Etana and Jesse Royal have been nominated in the Best Reggae Album category.
The awards show will be held on Monday, January 31, 2021. See the full list of nominees.
